The Power of a Positive Mindset

Have you been feeling low at work or throughout your day? Too tired to function, not motivated to go out, feeling hollow and just like you’re existing?

So did local mental health leader Chazz Scott.

He had the successful career, the lucrative salary, the luxury home, but no amount of material things would be able to satisfy what was truly missing from within. It wasn’t until he changed his mindset that his reality began to shift

Positive Psychology is the science of human flourishing, the search for satisfaction and contentment that’s within your reach. It focuses on the character strengths and behaviors that allow individuals to build a life of meaning and purpose. Positive Psychology, popularized by Martin Seligman, teaches that well-being can be defined, measured and taught. Seligman describes humans as “bad weather animals,” naturally tuned to notice danger, loss, and injustice, however fully capable of learning to focus on the good and build a “good life”.

The power of the mind is more impactful than you may think. If you drown yourself with negative thoughts, surround yourself with negative people, and consistently have a negative outlook on every life experience, your life will feel void of passion and purpose. At what seemed like his lowest point, Chazz Scott reflected on The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent and realized changing his mindset to redirect his mind to create positive energy in his life would then lead him down the path to accessing the feelings of fulfillment and contentment.

With fuel from his passion of positive psychology, Chazz launched Supra Mentem, a consulting business that specializes in “Helping leaders build a life and career that feels as good as it looks without burnout”.

You may be wondering, How can I do that too? Here are a few simple steps Chazz took that may show you that it may not be so far out of reach. Here are a small shifts Chazz incorporated into his morning routine that made a big impact:

  • A brief jog & stretch

  • Meditation

  • Reading or listening to uplifting podcasts

These changes may seem minimal, but may lead you to start your day feeling more productive and refreshed. By establishing a routine that nurtures both your body and mind, you too can take the first steps towards building a life that truly feels good.
