The Happy Highlight-Highlighting locals who make Baltimore Brighter

Meet Alisha & Gabe Adibe

“We're new to Baltimore, and when I found out this was going on, where a lot of people were not going to get benefits, I was like, 'We've got to do something”

Fells Point Restaurant Owners Step Up to Feed Families During SNAP Uncertainty

Sometimes, the brightest stories begin in the toughest moments. In Fells Point, two restaurant owners are proving that kindness is always on the menu.

Oleum, a new vegan kitchen located in Fells Point  became more than just a healthy place offering delicious, innovative plant-based cuisine. Restaurant owners, Alisha and Gabriel Adibe, noticed an immediate impact of people losing their food assistance benefits as the government shutdown continues. Rather than watch silently, they jumped to action. The couple began collecting donations of canned food from the community and from their food suppliers, transforming it into a mini food pantry that has already served dozens of families.

The Adibe’s action is part of a broader ripple of support circulating across Baltimore. Other local Baltimore businesses and organizations are also coming together launching opportunities for discounted meals and food donations for both those who need those resources or want to support. Places like the Maryland Food Bank, Greedy Reads, and The Bmore Community Fridge Network are collecting pantry goods, hygiene products, and groceries for those impacted by the shutdown.

These local businesses are part of a growing wave of Baltimore residents stepping up during challenging times, showing the resilience and community Baltimore has fostered especially in times of need.
